A pic of just ONE of the new programs that Multi-National businesses are forcing local universities to do (all at Government [read - Vietnamese Taxpayer] expense) -
As mentioned yesterday - Multi-national business with operations in Hai Phong are trying to shift some of THEIR standard operating costs to the Vietnamese Government by demanding that the UNIVERSITIES provide this specialised training instead of the businesses themselves doing it!
Socialize the costs and the losses.........privatize the gains and the profits!!
I'm suuuuure thass exactly what Uncle Ho had in mind.....
Funny shit - a friend sent me this pic.....I KNOW people at VMU (I'm supposed to call it "VEE-MAA-RUU" because when I say "V-M-U" I get looked at really strangely here), and, no, they never HAD a specialised "Shipbuilding English" program before this year!
And it's NOT just shipbuilding - Manufacturing, Engineering, etc. etc. etc....they have ALL put pressure on the local Universities to crank out "English-Ready" graduates at THEIR OWN expense or they simply will refuse to hire newly-graduated products from said University.
Yep, sucks, but again - business clients have shifted their expenses, thusly, if they can get The Government to pay for it, they no longer have any reason to contract with the private English Language centres and the freelancers.......which makes us about as needed as the incandescent light bulb today.....

So the dude is in standard 1970's business attire and the gal is in a standard 1980's Flashdance shirt with an ironic pussycat-wearing-glasses motif circa 2005.
Wot?
